Elephant Man, Is That You? / The Man With Two Faces (1920 – 1995)
The legendary ‘Elephant Man’ was one of the best-known deformed wonders of the 19th century (he passed away in 1890) and the main inspiration behind the 1980 masterpiece “The Elephant Man.” Curiously enough, Robert Owen Melvin was alive when the movie premiered. While he only performed very occasionally, he was known as ‘The Modern-Day Elephant Man.’
Before being diagnosed with a rare condition known as neurofibromatosis, Melvin never knew the origin of his strange look. He managed to live a whole and happy life anyway. He passed away in 1995 and was a husband, father, and grandfather at the time.
