Back When Piercings Were a Novelty / The Pierced Man (Circa 1930s)
Few things remain of the mysterious ‘Pierced Man.’ This photo of him is perhaps the only evidence of his existence, and his real name is unknown. His act, though, is easy to describe. The ‘Pierced Man’ loved to pierce any part of his body and face while on stage, much to the horror of those watching.
Piercings have become so common in this day and age that the ‘Pierced Man’ looks slightly underwhelming. However, keep in mind that piercing your body was still a novelty in the 1930s. This anonymous circus performer had no professional help, too; we just hope he disinfected those nails and needles before every show.
