A Stretch Too Many / The Elastic Man (1859 – ?)

Due to Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, James Morris managed to stretch his skin up to 18 inches without blinking. Doing so was painless to him, and he enjoyed entertaining those around him with his special ability. Born in Copenhagen, New York, he later performed with the P.T. Barnum circus all over the country.
Sadly, Morris’s repeated stretching left him with welts and scars. Forced to quit show business, he turned to drinking and gambling and disappeared from the spotlight. For that reason, his life after the circus is a complete mystery. However, it’s worth noting that people with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome have a life expectancy of 48 years.
