At the time, lighting up 30,000 feet above the ground was the norm, adding a sought-after “cool” vibe to air travel. Smoking was seen as glamorous and sophisticated, and the in-flight smoking sections made travel feel like a lounge in the sky.
However, as awareness of health risks grew and secondhand smoke became a concern, regulations changed. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, smoking on planes was banned. Now, the only clouds you’ll find in the cabin are from the jet engines, making for a much cleaner and healthier flight.
