The Five-Pound Human / World’s Smallest Woman (1864 – 1890)

Lucía Zárate was the first person ever to be diagnosed with an extreme type of dwarfism known as Majewski osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism type II. She was born in Veracruz, Mexico, and performed in circuses in the United States from the age of 12 until passing away in 1890. She was only 26 years old at the time.
Even though Zárate was presented as ‘The World’s Smallest Woman,’ she went down in history as the lightest human who has ever lived. A Guinness Record holder, she weighed an unbelievable 4.7 pounds at the age of 17. Her family home in Mexico is now a museum.
