The 620-Pound Wonder From New Jersey / Jolly Irene (1880 – 1940)
Amanda Siebert went down in history as ‘Jolly Irene,’ but her extensive career in show business was nothing short of unexpected. When she was young, she weighed 120 pounds. However, after giving birth to her first child, Siebert started putting on weight drastically! She reportedly weighed 620 pounds at her heaviest, even though some sources (including the picture postcard) cite that she could be as heavy as 689 pounds!
Siebert passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack. Nowadays, obesity is way more common than back in the early 20th century: according to World Population Review, 41.1% of American women are considered to be obese.
