Presumably of German origin, the sideshow act Sophia Schultz was born to work in show business. Her stage name was in many ways offensive—she was dubbed the ‘Dwarf Fat Lady’—but was also emblematic of her willingness to make a name for herself as a circus performer.
Schultz wanted to impress her audience so much that she even tried to grow a beard just so she could look even more unique. While there’s no official confirmation of it, some believe Schultz suffered from hypothyroidism, meaning she had an intellectual disability. We don’t know about you, but we would love to see this lady in action.
