Man’s Best Friend? / Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy (1868 – 1904)

Fedor Jeftichew and his father Adrien both suffered from hypertrichosis and were said to resemble dogs. While Fedor was a Skye Terrier, his father looked more like a poodle. They performed all over Europe and got all the way to P. T. Barnum’s American sideshow despite being originally from Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Dubbed ‘Jo-Jo, the Dog-Faced Boy,’ Fedor often imitated a dog during his performances. Perhaps one of the greatest globetrotters of the late 19th century, he ended up passing away in Greece while on tour. He’s so iconic that he was once a character in the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” TV series.
