In the history of sideshow, there’s been more than one bearded lady. However, none is as famous as the one-and-only Annie Jones. Also featured in “Freaks” (even though she wasn’t particularly fond of the movie’s title), she was born with a rare condition known as hirsutism.
As a consequence, Jones had more hair than most women, especially on her face. She was proud to make the most of it, though, and she performed in circuses (including P. T. Barnum’s iconic circus) for most of her life. During the early years of her career, her parents reportedly received a weekly salary of $150.
