It’s common enough that we use a power cord or cable and there’s a large mass shaped like a cylinder situated close to the end of it. The majority of people don’t realize that these are known as ferrite cores or chokes. They are made of iron oxide which is magnetic, and they’re used to bar electromagnetic interference in the high-frequency range. One instance, of this type of interference, is getting your mobile device closer to the speaker than it should comfortably be, and then your call is interrupted by a strange sound. Those big cylinders affixed to cable cords prevent this occurrence.
