Herb Eliott started running at the age of 8, and since then, has been a record-breaker, even as a retired senior. At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, he won the gold medal in the 1,500-metre race, passing the person in second by 20 yards.

This Australian middle-distance runner held the world record for the 1,500-metre race from 1958 to 1967 and the mile race record from 1958 to 1962. He ran his first sub-four-minute mile in 1958, and in that year, he set a new world record for the mile. Herb, now married with six kids, has become one of the defining athletes of his generation.
