Barbara Knox: 87, Coronation Street
Barbara Knox has been a part of the ITV soap opera Coronation Street her entire professional life, a record she continues to be a cause of celebration for to date. Knox’s character, Rita Tanner, appeared in the show in 1964 for just one episode, but in 1972, she became a permanent part of the ensemble cast.
The star then went on to play the role for forty-nine years and counting, allowing the soap to take up all her time! Such an incredible feat has now made Barbara the longest-serving current television soap opera actress in the world!
