These Are The Most Venomous Creatures On Earth
Hooded Pitohui
Poisonous birds are very rare. However, the hooded pitohui was the first bird to be described as such. The venom was found on their skin and their feathers. Handling their bodies for an exhibition was what first made scientists discover this. The poison causes rashes, numbness, and burning.
Interestingly, the venom seems to come from their diet, as they sequester certain components that cause this reaction. Their colors are interpreted as a sign to warn off predators. However, they’re not as bright as other venomous animals we’ve seen. The venom might be present to discourage predators and to avoid the growth of parasites.
