These ants are mostly present in the state of Arizona, United States. However, other arid states such as Nevada, California, and some areas of Mexico are also part of their habitat. Bites can be lethal for small mammals. Adult humans suffer intense pain for hours, but they don’t usually die from the venom.
The danger lies in the fact that these ants’ venom is prone to induce allergic reactions. Therefore, an anaphylactic reaction might occur. This is even more likely when more ants bite a victim because of their ability to signal each other. In this case, even an ambulance might be too late.
