There’s a reason why hockey players wear helmets and other protective gear. Accidents are never so far off. But the helmets don’t fully cover the face, and this player happened to get an unlucky reminder of that. He’s not alone though, there have been others hit in the face by the hockey puck, and he just had his rite of passage.
