Extra Tear Duct Outside the Ear?

When we cry, we expect tears to come from our eyes only. However, this person has a small hole on the side of the ear that also releases some tears when the eyes do so. While it may seem odd, the hole is quite common and is known as a preauricular pit.

The pit is usually a sinus tract traveling beneath the skin and is marked by an opening, which appears on both ears in some cases. However, people with it do not experience any additional symptoms, although it would be interesting to know if this person’s pit sheds tears or if it is just another fluid.
