Capuchin Catacombs – Palermo, Italy
Italy is home to many eerie archeological sites, and among them, perhaps the most unsettling of all is The Capuchin Catacombs. The site is located in the southern part of the region, built for the mummies of the Capuchin monastery. Believe it or not, it hosts the world’s largest collection of corpses!
So many local people have been buried in it for so many centuries that the complex underwent several extensions made throughout history. Despite the extended capacity, in 1880, catacombs stopped admitting more bodies. As scary as graveyards may sound, this one is surprisingly a popular tourist spot in Italy!
