Dennis shook his head and started the engine. What a strange ride it had been. Returning home, he felt a mix of satisfaction from doing a good deed and unease from the girl’s odd behavior. Something about the whole experience gnawed at him, though he couldn’t pinpoint what. As he tried to make sense of it all, a sudden glint caught his eye.
Glancing at the passenger side, he saw Harper’s phone lying on the floor. Given how attached she seemed to it, this was especially odd. Without a moment’s hesitation, Dennis turned the car around and headed back to the station, hoping the kid hadn’t already left without her phone.
