When Michael Crichton created the American drama series, ER, he never knew it would earn such rave reviews and become famous. Perhaps one of the reasons it took off so well is due to the character Dr. Doug Ross, portrayed by George Clooney. It went on to become the second-longest-running primetime medical drama in American television history.

ER started making reruns on television even before it finished, with TNT airing syndicated reruns in 1998. It put Clooney among the highest-paid actors, earning over $100k per episode. He even admitted that his wife watches the reruns, but he’s trying to forget all the “terrible things” he did as Dr. Ross.
