Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzman — $1 Billion
Suspected Mexican drug lord Joaquín Guzmán was the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel which was formed along the Mexican Pacific coast. He is known as “El Chapo” because of his short stature. In 2003, he became Mexico’s top drug leader by default. His drug-fueled reign made Guzmán a billionaire. In 2011, he was ranked 1,140th wealthiest in the world and 10th in Mexico. His net worth for 2016 was estimated to be $4 billion but decreased to $1 billion in 2018. Guzman is under trial in the US. This is over his alleged involvement in smuggling over 200 tons of cocaine into the US and a lot of murders.
