Beyond the Textbooks: Historical Figures Whose Lives Were Anything But Ordinary!
Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla was a visionary inventor born in 1856 in what is now Croatia. He made a huge splash in America with his wild ideas about electricity and the future. He worked on creating the alternating current (AC) system, which powers most of our homes today. He had a big rivalry with Thomas Edison, who was all about direct current (DC).
Nikola also dreamed up things like wireless communication before it was a thing. He was a bit of an oddball and didn’t get much credit until after he passed away. Today, he’s a science hero, and even a car company is named after him—Tesla.
