Beyond the Textbooks: Historical Figures Whose Lives Were Anything But Ordinary!
The Wright Brothers

Orville and Wilbur Wright, known universally as the Wright Brothers, were the masterminds behind the first successful powered flight. Hailing from Ohio, they initially ran a bicycle shop, where they honed the mechanical skills they would later apply to aviation. Their journey into flight was spurred by the achievements of glider pioneer Otto Lilienthal, who inspired them to embark on their own experiments.
They made history on a chilly December day in 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, where their creation, the Wright Flyer, soared for a groundbreaking 12 seconds, covering 120 feet. This flight launched the age of aviation and secured the Wright Brothers’ place as pioneers.
