Beyond the Textbooks: Historical Figures Whose Lives Were Anything But Ordinary!

Karl Marx

Karl Marx, born in 1818 in Trier, Germany, was a philosopher, economist, and revolutionary whose writings profoundly shaped modern political and economic thought. Educated at the University of Bonn and then at the University of Berlin, he was initially influenced by the philosophy of Hegel but later developed his own theories.

He collaborated with Friedrich Engels, publishing “The Communist Manifesto” in 1848, a powerful call to arms for the working class. His magnum opus, “Das Kapital,” delved deeply into the mechanics of capitalist economies, critiquing their reliance on the exploitation of labor. Karl’s ideas about class struggle, historical materialism, and the critique of capitalist society laid the groundwork for Marxism.
