Roman Soldier – 3 Differences
The legend of Heracles and the Nemean Lion shows the first instance of a Greek hero donning animal skin as a sign of power. And after the Romans adopted the Greek Heracles as Hercules, they continued the tradition.
According to history, the lion headdress was worn by senior ranking soldiers known as aquilifers.
One interesting theory is that Roman soldiers wore bear or wolf headdresses to invoke the power of said animals and show their willingness to engage in personal combat. And everyone knows the sight of a bear would inspire fear in most men. That aside, these pictures have three differences. Can you spot them?
