Brazilian former actor José Mayer was a staple in the role of leading man in telenovelas. In 1977, he made his first appearance on screen in the children’s show “Stio do Picapau Amarelo.” He received the APCA Award for Best Newcomer Actor for his performance in “Bandidos da Falange and Guerra dos Sexos” in 1983.
In addition to tv shows, he has appeared in several films as an actor, one of which, “Perfume de Gardênia,” earned him the Best Actor Award at the 25th Festival de Brasilia. However, in 2017, Mayer was suspended from TV Globo due to misconduct claims, which led to his subsequent disappearance from the acting scene.
