Most of us want plump, moist, soft skin, pretty much like that of the babies, however, it’s not an easy feat. While others are born with skin that doesn’t need too many products to maintain, there are others who literally need to spend tons of money just to keep their faces exactly what they want it to be.
Here we can see a familiar scenario: the trial and error formula when it comes to beauty products that we apply, all in the hopes of getting the skin we have always hoped for. However, the rigorous process not only shocks our skins but also burns a hole in our pocket – just imagine finding out that the product you just bought yesterday caused breakouts, so you end up throwing the item away.
Apart from buying and trying different products, we also get to see some trends in the past years that certainly gathered an audience. Some celebrities even promote some of this stuff on social media, where millions of their followers see the products they use. The discovery of and experimentation on lots of skin-related things are endless, but oftentimes, we try products on our faces we don’t even realize if they’re safe or not. Here are some of the skin trends that may or may not be great for our faces:
Sheet Mask
The hype about face masks is nowhere near stopping – these are like wet tissues that are allegedly filled with the nutrients your face needs. What you do is to first cleanse your face and rid all the dirt, meaning you need a clean board before you put the mask on. These face-shaped creations come in individual packs, and you’ve probably seen it several times on Instagram or Facebook because even celebrities use this beauty product.
However, although a lot of people swear by the suppleness their skin feels after a session, Paula’s Choice founder Paula Begoun begs to differ. She said the sheet masks are a waste of time and are unnecessary because these don’t really promote better skin absorption of nutrients, and she suggested that the time we spent with the mask on could be used for better things.
Exfoliators
When you go to a beauty store to look for an exfoliator, Paula suggests that you find a delicate one because those containing harsh, abrasive elements would not just be hurtful to the skin, but would also damage it by ripping the protective layer of the skin. Exfoliation, however, is essential in keeping the face soft by slowly removing the dead layer of the skin. Using something that’s hard can overdo it and of course, you’ll feel the effect on your face.
Face Rollers
Face rollers are one of the most popular products that are sweeping the world by storm – these items have a handle and on the other tip, a stone, sometimes quartz or jade, which you use to roll on the cheeks, under the eyes, forehead, and even the neck. Others say these can help in the blood circulation in the face and some even say it works wonderfully in removing wrinkles.
Paula, however, advised people to steer clear of these products because using it regularly can damage the elastin of the skin, and if that happens, it only means saggy skin. Although she doesn’t approve of jade rollers, she said derma rollers used by registered dermatologists are safe, but these ones are definitely different than the ones we can buy at the mall.
Gold-infused Skin Products
We get it, a little shimmer can be hard to ignore and all the more something that’s so sparkly and shiny, it’s definitely unmissable. Gone are the days when mists and bronzers are the only ones with a little shimmer, now, there are hordes of skincare products that are infused with gold.
Although it is established that gold is an antioxidant, there are no vast research and studies done to prove that it works better than any other antioxidants out there. That said, it pays to read the labels and look if there are ingredients you’re unfamiliar with. Google is your friend and you can definitely see if it will suit your skin type.
